Final project for my Drawing Media class. I chose to draw how I thought Death might appear as a character in my fantasy universe. Basically he's disguised as an ordinary if eccentric traveler who appears to those who have died and whose spirits are wandering around, unaware that they are dead. His bird is based off of a Magnificent Frigate, a seabird which steals food from other birds. I chose it because a) the traditional raven was already taken as a symbol by another character of mine and holds the symbolism of wisdom rather than death, and b) these things freak me out. Seriously. It's throat-sac thing looks like a beating heart. So I made up this little anecdote in which the bird was once alive but had its heart ripped out through its throat; Death took pity on it and restored it to life, though he could not repair the body. So he has a creepy undead companion zombie bird to stare you down. And hey, it's black and red, what more could you want?
